Reblog – His Dark Materials: A Farewell To H.R. Giger (1940-2014)

I wanted to share with you all an article written for Nerd Titan by fellow author Michael Shean. H.R. Giger was a visionary and often tested the boundaries of reality through his work. He will be sorely missed.

“An architect of sublime nightmares has passed.

Representatives from his museum have confirmed that renowned surrealist artist, H.R. Giger, died on Monday in Zurich, Switzerland due to injuries sustained in a fall.  He was 74.  Giger was best known to the public as the designer of the Xenomorph and sets for the movie Alien (1979) – for which he earned an Academy Award – and its following films, but his deeply disturbing ‘biomechanical’ artwork has inspired and delighted science fiction fans and artists alike for many years before and since.”
